On 1 January 2027 Dutch net metering ends. Surplus you feed in then earns far less than you pay for electricity — and your supplier may charge feed-in costs on top. What you store and use in the evening is electricity you no longer have to buy at the full rate.

Three figures decide which set-up is right

Choosing a home battery is not a matter of taking the biggest one. Too small and you have nothing left in the evening, too big and part of the capacity stands idle. So we start with the figures of your home.

Where to find the figures

The annual consumption is on your annual statement, usually at the top with the overview of kWh used. The watt-peak per panel is on the quote or the invoice for your solar panels and, on most installations, on the type plate at the back. Your connection can be read in the meter cupboard, or checked with your grid operator.

No number rolls out of a machine

After sending you do not get an outcome on the screen. A calculation that adds up asks for someone to look at your situation, and you hear from us as soon as we have taken that step.

The form is short and you do not have to create an account. If you are not sure about something, fill in what you think it roughly is. We would rather come back to you once than have you drop out on a field.

We work it out by hand

We put your consumption next to your generation and your connection, and look at which capacity logically goes with that. If something is missing or a figure looks off, we get in touch first before issuing advice.

You get the advice by email

Once we have worked it out it lands in your inbox: which version and how many modules fit, and what you will do differently with your electricity in practice. If you want to go ahead, we put you in touch with a certified installer in the Netherlands.

What the advice contains

The advice is a readable piece, not a price list. We name which version suits your connection, how many modules we would take at your consumption and why we do not advise bigger or smaller.

We also explain what changes in your daily flow of energy: which part of your own generation you can still use yourself with storage instead of feeding it back, and at which moments of the day that difference arises. That control comes from FlexGrid, the energy management system that drives the battery and the inverter.

We look ahead as well. If a heat pump or a second electric car is coming, that is a reason to keep room to add a module later instead of filling everything up now.

Rather spread it? The Warmtefonds lends along

With the energy-saving loan from the Dutch Nationaal Warmtefonds you do not have to pay for the home battery in one go. The application runs in three steps, and it starts with the quote — not with the loan.

  1. Request a quote first

    The brand and type of the home battery must be clearly stated on that quote. Without those details the Warmtefonds cannot assess the application. If you do not know yet which set-up suits your home, have it worked out above.

  2. Submit the application to the Warmtefonds

    You send the quote along and apply for the energy-saving loan. Watch the conditions: you are the owner and the occupant, it is for private use, and the battery goes on your own property.

  3. Have the battery fitted

    The connection to your meter cupboard and your solar panels is done by a certified installer. That is also the condition under which the warranty applies.
