Financing your home battery through the Warmtefonds

With the energy-saving loan (Energiebespaarlening) from the Dutch Nationaal Warmtefonds you do not have to put the amount on the table in one go. A home battery falls within the scheme too — and depending on your income the interest rate can come out at 0%.

The interest rate depends on your income and there is a good chance you end up at 0% — in which case you pay back no more than you borrowed. The fifteen-year term does not apply if the battery part is less than a third of your total loan. Amounts and conditions can change; the current rules are always with the Nationaal Warmtefonds itself.

Do you meet the conditions?

Five requirements, all at the same time. Go through them before applying and you know straight away whether it stands a chance.

  • You are the owner and the occupant — both at once. Landlords and tenants do not qualify by this route.
  • The battery is for private use — a battery for a commercial building or a business connection falls outside the scheme.
  • The battery is on your own property — not at the neighbours', not in a shared space.
  • An installer connects it — the connection is not a job you carry out yourself.
  • You send a quote with brand and type — without those details the Warmtefonds cannot assess the application.

How the application goes

Three steps. The quote is the start — brand and type have to be on it, so you make that choice first.

  1. Request a quote

    Have a quote drawn up on which the brand and type of the home battery are clearly stated. If you do not know yet which set-up suits your home, we work it out on your consumption.

  2. Submit the application to the Warmtefonds

    You send the quote to the Nationaal Warmtefonds and apply there for the energy-saving loan. Check the five conditions above in advance — owner and occupant, private use, own property.

  3. Have the battery fitted

    After approval you have the battery connected by an installer. In the Netherlands our systems are delivered through certified installers, who take care of the connection to your meter cupboard and solar panels.

The quote fixes your choice — so choose well first

Brand and type on the quote are what the Warmtefonds assesses and what will be hanging in your meter cupboard. It is worth looking at that closely.
